Tagaranna VIII Literature Day
Introduction
Tagaranna Literature Day is a cultural event held in the fishing village of Tagaranna on Saaremaa in the summer—since 2019, usually on the second Saturday in July—that lasts from noon until sunset. The idea for Tagaranna Literature Day came from Maimu Berg, one of Estonia’s most widely translated authors, whose mother was born in Tagaranna. This year’s Literature Day will feature four distinctive male writers whose names begin with the letter M: Sven Mikser, Arne Merilai, Kaupo Meiel, and Jaan Malin. In the new section “Classics on Classics,” Eeva Park, Maarja Undusk, and Rein Veidemann will share their thoughts. This summer, an exhibition by Saaremaa artist Maila Juns Veldre is on display in the boathouse at Kipri Farm. The toy museum “Playmobil House” is open, and various publishers (Ilmamaa, Tänapäev, Varrak, Hea Lugu, the Literary Museum’s Academic Press, and others) will be offering their publications. The microphone is also open to a new surprise guest. As always, you can enjoy good music on Literature Day and, at the audience’s request, join in the Tagaranna Literature Day theater troupe’s performance. At sunset, we look forward to welcoming Plekktrumm along with Joonas Hellermaa and his guest. Welcome to Tagaranna Literature Day at Kipri Farm by the sea, in the village of Tagaranna on Saaremaa, on Saturday, July 11, 2026. There’s no need to worry about food—you can buy it on-site, and in the evening, everyone will be served the traditional Tagaranna Literature Day cake and coffee.
